Welcome

Hello and welcome to the personal website of Adam Brookes. I am a student from Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England. I am studying for a BEng Electronic and Communication Engineering degree at the University of Huddersfield. As part of my degree I have completed a year-long industrial placement at a company producing radio communication equipment and have gained a great deal of experience from this. My personal interests include electronics, computing, aviation, cycling, and photography.

Mouse Computing

My introduction to computer came in the form of a Amstrad CPC464 in the mid 90's which belonged to my father (www.2tuple.org.uk), a software engineer. The CPC464 had a 4MHz processor and 64 kB of RAM! Since my early programming days with Basic, I've gained experience of working with HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, VisualBasic, Assembler (PIC16F84), Java and JavaScript. I have used Apache, MySQL and Linux. I have learnt basic C++ as part of my first year at university.

Aircraft Aviation

I have a strong interest in aviation and an ambition to gain a Private Pilot Licence to allow me to fly light aircraft. My year-long industrial placement was at a company operating in the aviation industry.

Circuit board Radio & Electronics

I'm a licensed radio amateur with the callsign M0HKY, previously M3HKY and 2E0HKY. I am a member of the Radio Society of Great Britain and of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

I obtained my Foundation licence in August 2003 after successfully completing the course with the Denby Dale Amateur Radio Society.
